- Do you actually work on Venice Island, or is it mostly mainland?
- Venice Island is half our weekly route. Most of our oldest repeat customers live south of Venice Avenue. Fix it Once Handyman Services knows the bridge timing, the narrow-lot access challenges, and the historic-district expectations on this side of the water.
- My Venice Island home is from the 1960s — can you match the original plaster?
- Yes. A lot of pre-1975 Island homes have plaster over lath, not modern drywall. We patch with a plaster-compatible mud, skim-coat the surrounding area so the patch disappears, and prime for paint. No tear-out, no obvious patch line.
- How bad is salt-air damage on Venice Island vs. inland?
- Bad. Hardware that lasts 10 years inland lasts 18 months on the Gulf side of the Island. We stock 316 stainless and bronze hardware for Island calls — pricier, but it's the only thing that survives the salt.
- Can you work in the Venice Historic District without violating any rules?
- Yes. Interior work is unrestricted. Exterior changes that are visible from the street can require board review — we'll tell you up front if your project triggers that and stay inside the rules either way.

- No. We bring a smaller truck for downtown and Avenue addresses and stage materials curbside without blocking neighbors. No extra fee — it's just how Island work has to be done.
- How fast can you get to Venice Island?

- What does a handyman in Venice, FL typically charge?
- Our standard small-job rate is a flat $145 first hour (includes drive and basic materials) and $95 per hour after, materials at cost. Most punch-list visits — a sticking door, a wobbly fan, a leaky hose bib, a wall patch, a new mailbox — finish under two hours. We quote flat-rate on anything larger before we start.
- What kinds of handyman jobs do you do in one visit?
- Drywall patching, door alignment, hinge and lock fixes, ceiling fan and light fixture swaps, toilet and faucet replacement, picture and TV mounting, weatherstrip and caulking, hose bib replacement, mailbox installs, screen panel swaps, exterior touch-up paint, and gutter cleaning. The trick to saving money is bundling several into one trip.
- What jobs do you NOT take as a handyman?
- We don't do whole-house re-pipes, panel upgrades, new electrical circuits, structural framing, roofing, HVAC, or sewer work — those require Florida-licensed trades and we refer them out. We focus on the repair-and-replace work licensed contractors don't want to drive out for.
- Do you serve my Venice, Sarasota, or North Port neighborhood?
- Almost certainly yes. We cover Venice Island, South Venice, Jacaranda, Nokomis, Osprey, North Port (all zips), Wellen Park, Englewood, Rotonda West, Sarasota south of Bee Ridge, Palmer Ranch, Gulf Gate, Siesta Key, Lakewood Ranch, and the Lakewood Ranch villages. Call and we'll confirm same-day.
- How fast can you start a job in Venice?
- Most Venice and South Venice jobs go on the calendar same-day or next-day. Sarasota and Englewood typically schedule within 48 hours. If it's an emergency — active leak, broken exterior door, storm damage — call directly and we'll try to fit you in the same day.
- Do you give estimates over the phone or do I need to schedule a visit?
- For most repairs we give an honest ballpark over the phone in under five minutes — you describe what's going on and we tell you a price range based on what we typically see. For larger projects (full repaints, multiple-room work, deck rebuilds) we'll come out and walk it with you. Phone estimates are always free; on-site estimates are free for projects we end up booking.
- Are you licensed and insured?
- Yes — fully insured for residential and HOA work across Sarasota County. Florida doesn't require a handyman license for repair work under specific thresholds, but we carry general liability and we're happy to send our certificate of insurance to your HOA or condo board before we start.
- What forms of payment do you accept?
- Cash, check, Zelle, Venmo, and all major credit cards. No deposit required on small jobs — we invoice when the work is done and you're happy with it. Larger projects with material purchases may require a materials deposit, which we'll discuss up front.
- Do you stand behind your work?
- Every repair comes with a one-year workmanship warranty. If something we fixed comes back within twelve months, we come back and make it right — no callback fee, no excuses. That's the whole reason we're called Fix It Once.
- Can I bundle multiple small fixes into one visit?
- Yes — and you should. Most of our Venice customers save a trip charge by stacking a punch list: a sticking door, a wobbly fan, a leaky hose bib, a wall patch, a new mailbox. One trip, one invoice, the whole list done.
